Understanding the Indian Vedic Astrology

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Indian Vedic astrology is different than the Western zodiac used by most Americans. Western astrology has roughly the same constellations but they use a fixed rotation that has been constant since their inception in Ancient Greece. The Indian Vedic constellations allow for the earth and sun’s rotation and the sun’s path through the heavenly bodies. Over time, this live astrology has seen a shifting of twenty-two degrees in difference to the Western astrology.

Also called Hindu astrology, the celestial sequences that make up the constellations are divided into twelve equal parts. This is based on the three hundred and sixty degrees of the ecliptic. Each part of the ecliptic is called a sign. The signs themselves are given names based directly on the translation of the Greek names, such as “the bow” or “the ram.”

In Hindu communities, the astrology sign plays heavily on how people think and what they do. Take for example a baby’s name. It is based on the Jyotish (zodiac) sign under which he or she is born. They even believe that successful marriages and unions are based on compatible zodiac signs. The zodiac sign plays a huge significance in every aspect of their lives. There are three branches of the Jyotisa (called the zodiac sign). These branches are Siddhanta, Samhita and Hora. Each of the three covers some part of the follower’s life.

Indian Vedic astrology is a very interesting subject that deserves more than just a mere article. It has a rich and colorful history that is not easily summed up in a few paragraphs. The Elements of Chinese Astrology

Monday, February 8th, 2010

The elements of Chinese astrology are believed to be associated with the five planets in the Solar System. The planet Mars is associated with the element of Fire, Saturn with Earth, Mercury with Water, Jupiter with Wood, and Venus with Metal. These five elements are believed to have an influence with one another, mostly by overcoming each element—that is, water can overcome fire, wood generates fire, or other similar ideas. Obviously, these elements have paved way to the idea of Chinese astrology.

Ancient Chinese sages believe that these five elements of Fire, Earth, Water, Wood and Metal coexist directly with the seasons, colors, directions, and other aspects. For example, the element of Wood is correlated to Spring and the color green, which is apparently connected with the idea of nature. Fire, on the other hand, is often connected to the idea of passion and the color red. Furthermore, Chinese astrology has the belief that each of these elements has a lot of influence on people because they have bestowed different characteristics to the twelve animals of the zodiac. The twelve animals represent the years that people are born, therefore pointing out that their characteristics are somehow passed on to the people who are born in the years that they represent.

One element of the Chinese astrology is Metal. This symbol represents a triumph and business and harvesting. Most people who are born under this element are known to be very dependable individuals. Their responsible nature brings them triumph in any field that they wish to be good in. Another element is Water, which is known to represent artistry. Water can take any shape, and in the same manner, people who are born under this element can be flexible in any situation that they are in. People who possess the Water element are also communicative, and they have a penchant for traveling.

Earth is an element representing the virtues of honesty and patience. People who are born under this element are known to be very principled and responsible. However, they are also known to have a balance of fun and seriousness in their personalities. Wood is a symbol of creativity and innovation. People who are born under this sign are known to possess natural artistry in the endeavors that they take. They also have the capability to care much for the people that are dear to them. Lastly, the element of Fire is the boldest element of the five. People who are born under this sign are known as very enthusiastic and passionate for their goals. They are also known as spontaneous individuals.
